Known for his collaborations with hip-hop heavyweights Pitbull, Lil Jon and Flo Rida, his new song extends a reliable, helping hand

It turns out that Jean-Carlos Casely – the sultry voice that’s aided artists like Pitbull and Flo Rida, plus brought in rapper Lil Jon for one of his most popular tracks “Sweat” in 2010 – is a classically trained pianist. The Miami-based multi-instrumentalist has also had a career in musicals and worked the boards as a recording engineer, but his identity as Casely the pop artist seems to be an entirely different persona.
His comforting new R&B/pop song “Never Be Alone” proves just that. “I would say that my career as an artist/writer and producer plays a very different role in my trade as an entertainer than it does as a musician.” Unlike the entertainer in musicals, “Never Be Alone” comes from a place of introspection, a song he wrote for a friend who was suffering on the mental health front. “This song is my attempt to reach out and say, ‘Whatever it is you’re dealing with, just know, I’ll walk with you through it.’”
For someone who’s been in the game for more than 15 years and released material via major labels such as Epic Records and Ultra Records, the Trinidadian and Panamanian origin artist says he’s always stuck to his musical vision from the beginning. “It’s most important for me to be different and real with my audience,” he says.
While “Never Be Alone” is a signature pop song, Casely cites everyone from indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie to guitarist and singer-songwriter John Mayer as a major influence. Despite his classical training, he admits he’s not thinking much as a pianist while writing. “I think more from a production standpoint in general.” Where he needed to write freely, he also co-founded genre-fluid band Casely and the Jank and released the album Gentrified: The Collection in 2014. It has in turn led to influencing his solo material, with an upcoming album called The Mutt due in November.
