Ask Confuzone’s vocalist Vishant Khawas (aka Vishant VVicious) why their new song is called “The Sodomized Civilization” and he goes a step further to introduce the term “cruel-ization.” In true metal fashion, the Darjeeling band’s frontman adds that the lies and temptations are leading us to “eternal death each and every day.” The remedy? There is none, apparently. “One day they got to be self-punished, with no chance for repentance, but with brutality and self-destruction,” he adds.

The song – produced by Anomaly Sound Designs’ Akash Sherpa (frontman of metallers If Hope Dies) in Sukna – is part of their upcoming debut EP The Solution X-Plosion, which releases on January 6th. While Confuzone have been around since 2013, Vishant notes that lineup changes have often hindered writing, recording and releasing material. “The basic thing is finance, to get good production. The lack of proper recording places and tech, especially in our region is an issue, but now there are music enthusiasts coming up with it and it’s growing.” The EP has been mixed and mastered by Australian recording engineer and metal band Psycroptic’s guitarist Joe Haley.

After a couple of demos in the early years, the band released “Murdering Our Mothers” as their first official single in 2016. Unlike the slow, sinister build of that one, “The Sodomized Civilization” cuts straight to the chase and hammers down an imposing pace of death metal. As a band that’s often competed in college contests across the country – including Sea Rock in Goa and Strawberry Fields in Bengaluru – Confuzone are now set on gigging as much as possible in 2020. Vishant says, “Now we have stopped competing, now we’ve decided to grow professionally. There’s writing, producing our stuff, going for shows, tours and it goes on.”
