The Mumbai trio headed out to Himachal to shoot the music video for their latest release
Mumbai folk-rock trio Folk Masti sing about self-love and checking in on one’s close friends and family on their latest song “Kahaniya.” Frontman Vipul Panchal says he drew from the idea of stories being an essential fuel for life.
He says about the inspiration behind the jovial song, “Stories always inspire us and give us a purpose towards a joyful life. The song is traveling between different emotions but emphasizes more on self-love, where you are hiding things, sharing with ourselves and enjoying it happily.”
Joined by keyboardist and melodica player Sachin Guldagde and Roshan Aade on cajon, “Kahaniya” was written about four years ago but Panchal decided to complete the song in January this year. They headed out to Himachal Pradesh to shoot the music video with filmmaker Rahul Chavan from production house Rolling Shutter. With the backdrop of the Beas River near Manali, Folk Masti perform “Kahaniya” by a fire, as Panchal earnestly asks in the song, “Kaisa hai tu aur teri kahaniya?” (How are you and your life’s stories?)
Panchal says about the music video experience, “We have discovered so many things while shooting and the experience was incredible. There is so much peace in the mountains, people are so lovely in Himachal.” The track was mixed by Kerala-based Shree Shankar, who also worked on Folk Masti’s album Jadoo Ki Chhadi.
Up next, the band are working on more releases and another music video. While the pandemic did put pause on their shows, Panchal is hopeful that it will pick back up for Folk Masti. “We are praying that we get to start playing live soon, because that’s the main source of income for us. Plus, playing live to audiences is the best experience,” Panchal says.
