Synthwave seems to find fans in metalheads, likely because of its murky soundscapes. Synthwave artists like Perturbator, GoST and Carpenter Brut infuse electronic elements with that steady melancholic melody that’s also a total Eighties throwback.

Closer home, Guwahati synthwave act The Disco Rangers were also into metal for long, but when they started as a trio – Abhishek Borah, Suraj Biswas and Mitul Boro – in 2015, they were admittedly having their minds blown when they discovered the electronic music sub-genre. They released their debut single “Them Shades” in 2015, but decided to focus on other project soon after.

About four years later, they’ve got back into the groove of things, releasing their second single “After Love” and are now prepping for a five-track EP called Remnants Of Us. “After Love” is a staple synthwave offering – dreamy, shimmering leads over a disco-inspired beat over lyrics that Borah says he “a relationship I couldn’t even think I could write about six months ago.”

Written by Borah and produced by Biswas (under the moniker Deadnoxx), the track was mastered by Guwahati rock and electronic mainstay Lucid Recess Studios’ Siddharth Barooa. For mixing, however, The Disco Rangers sought out Milan-based Vincenzo Salvia, whose track “Italian Gigolo” featured on the soundtrack to TV series Stranger Things recently released third season. Borah adds about Salvia, “He really loved our tracks. We are also shooting one of our music videos from the coming record with him in Milan this October where he’ll be helping us out with the shoot as well.”

The concept EP Remnants Of Us (which follows a toxic relationship from start to finish) will be performed live at their single launch show on August 9th at Terra Mayaa in Guwahati. There’s support from electronic duo Lateral (who also released their own EP Other Words in June), electronic/hip-hop guitar duo Kowin, and DJ-producers Yonoh and Aphelion.
