Exclusive Premiere: Hear Natania’s Bubbly New Track ‘Yellow Lights’

The Indo-American singer-songwriter's latest offering touches upon having 'mixed feelings'

The last time we spoke to singer-songwriter Natania Lalwani, she had just released her blissful single “Mess Me Up.” Since then, the musician has been shuttling between Los Angeles and Mumbai, working on her own material, singing on ads, doing television and film work as well as collaborating with artists such as New York-based singer-songwriter Miranda Glory and Bollywood playback singer Akasa Singh. Now, Lalwani is back with her brand new pop offering, “Yellow Lights,” released via AmsterdamATLAST.

The track opens with a calm synth progression under Lalwani’s silky vocals. It then kicks into the next gear with a chunky bass line and electronica elements. On the song Lalwani penned this past April, she says, “It’s about getting mixed signals from someone and not really knowing what to do about it. After I finished writing it I realized that I was staying in that situation for way longer than I needed to be.” Ask Lalwani what she wants people to take away from the song, and she says, “We all know how frustrating it is to stay in a yellow light and once you see it, you should always walk away because you deserve people in your life that would never for a second let you question whether they are all in and that they are 100 percent sure about you.”

“Yellow Lights” was recorded at producer Matt Ferree’s home studio in Sherman Oaks, California. Ferree also mixed and mastered the track. “I like to call [Ferree] my musical soulmate and a genius,” says Lalwani. Next, Lalwani plans on putting out more music in the coming months and hinted that she might release an EP too. “I’m just going with the flow and seeing where it ends up,” she says. Also in the pipeline is a music video for “Yellow Lights,” scheduled to release in a couple of weeks.
