Exclusive Premiere: Jaipur Band Demigod Turn to Emotive Metal on ‘Black Rose Dying’

Their fourth single propels the band away from metalcore leanings to a more polished yet hard-hitting sound

It was in June 2018 that Jaipur metallers Demigod appeared on most radars, releasing their metalcore-meets-goth tinged single “Cure of My Sickness.” Along the way of playing gigs across India and two more singles (“Whiplash Motif” and “Two Pillars”), the band have honed in on a more finessed style, one that’s heard on their latest song “Black Rose Dying.”

While still rooted in metalcore, Demigod’s fourth release builds on lightheaded keyboard layers as well as gentle guitar parts, as vocalist-guitarist Ravneet Singh and bassist-vocalist Ayush Saxena add emo vocal melodies that eventually get intense. Written in 2016, keyboardist Sanskriti Mathur says they wanted this track to add a different dimension compared to their all-out heavier material. “We wanted to expand our horizons in terms of writing music and convey our emotions to our audience. Our goal has always been to keep creating music that the listener can relate to, and we draw ourselves in no boundaries while writing stuff,” she says.

Guitarist Rishabh Upadhyay adds, “Our influences have also shifted from old-school metalcore to modern core bands coming up today. So listening to such music carefully has made us aware of how a track should sound. We are not exactly there yet but very close. We will keep on working and polishing it until we are.”

Future material might see another turn and diverse elements being introduced to Demigod’s listeners. Upadhyay mentions there more tracks “under construction, while some of them are ready too.” He adds,  “The new music will be more towards electro core ambient metal blended with some progressive elements. We’ll be updating our audience with short peeks as soon as we’re done writing all the material that is still in process.”
