Although New Delhi artist Kartikay Singh originally established himself as a rapper, he’s quickly shown versatility with a slew of collaborations. Aided by Uttarakhand hip-hop artist Kumauni 17 aka Bhupesh Bisht, Kartikay unveils his upcoming EP Saare Pal with an emotional R&B informed Hindi song called “Tu Bhula.”

Kartikay says he came in contact with Kumauni 17 (a rapper since 2018) through a common friend online. Kumauni too reached out to Kartikay after seeing him pop up regularly on social media feeds in the hip-hop space. Kartikay adds, “I would always prefer to connect with those people who have real talent in R&B and rap music.”

By April, Kartikay had completed working on five songs tied together by a theme of “past moments” and how “memories are timeless,” which led him to package it as an EP called Saare Pal. He adds, “I was looking for those artists who can bring five different flavors to my EP.” That’s evident across songs like “Tu Bhula,” “Wo Pal,” “Laapata” (featuring R&B/soul artist Prabh Oshan), “Wo Keheti” (featuring previous collaborator 2facebleed aka Niladri Chattopadhyay) and “Wahi Kai.”

With the EP releasing on July 25th in full, Kartikay is also prepping animated videos (like the anime-referencing one for “Tu Bhula”) by Bhopal-based visual artist Rajat Kushwaha. Now that he’s satiated the R&B, EDM and hip-hop side through releases, Kartikay says there’s more he wants to try out. “It really pushed me as a musician to become better at my craft. In the future, I would love to explore more genres like jazz, rock and others.”

Kartikay has been releasing music more or less nonstop over the last year, so he’s planning a break following the release of Saare Pal. He adds that in September he’s plotting a “crazy vibe” in terms of music and a possible EP in October.
