A haunting, gothic aesthetic defines singer-songwriter Kiara Chettri’s latest music video for her new song “Cold,” directed, shot and edited by filmmaker Matu Harvey at the sprawling Hyde Park in London. The somber yet dreamy song gets a video that mirrors Chettri’s lyrics of heartbreak, complete with unsettling direct-to-camera gazes and chilly weather.

London-based Chettri wrote “Cold” back when she was home in New Delhi, honing in on an atmospheric, subtle kind of pop song, which is produced by Moscow’s George Porlemad. Chettri untangles a complicated love story, one that was inspired by shows and movies which portray estranged relationships.

The music video was shot across three days with Harvey and Chettri. Her London-based filmmaker friends Zach Sadock and Joyce Beijderwellen were essaying the role of a couple in love. “Overall, this video, according to me, is the best music video I have and it was the best experience I have had, especially here in London,” Chettri says.

With an eye on making a “simple and haunting” video specifically in Hyde Park, she and Harvey came up with ideas for the video’s plot, in which Chettri’s former flame is played by Sadock and Beijderwellen plays his elegant present partner. Chettri says the pair had great chemistry on screen and that’s when she knew “Cold” was going to have an “amazing” music video.

While there are only super-serious expressions served on screen, Chettri notes that it was much more lighthearted once the cameras weren’t rolling. “The whole experience on the second day [of the shoot] was so fun because there were five of us in that park shooting and also making sure that we made each other laugh from time to time and filmed behind the scenes too,” she adds.

Her first release of the year, “Cold” follows singles like “What We Could Be” from 2022 and “Why” in 2021 — which also had a striking music video — and her debut album 4AM, which was out in 2020.
