On their latest song “Cell,” there’s a certain straightforwardness that Guwahati alt-rock/metal band Lucid Recess bring that sets it apart from their intricate, heavy-hitting 2015 album Alive and Aware.

Their third single after Alive and Aware ”“ following up 2016’s “This Alarming Calm” and “Blindmen” in 2018 ”“ the new song hones what guitarist Siddharth Barooa calls a “raw live feel.” The first set of songs Siddharth and his vocalist-bassist brother Amitabh Barooa are working on with drummer Sandeepan Baruah, “Cell” is melancholic and heavy, keeping the riffs and hooks as direct as possible. The video ”“ shot by filmmaker and friend of the band Anurag Baruah ”“ sets the trio in a small, perhaps stuffy room that is bare, save for construction material. It turns out that it’s an under-construction room at the band’s Lucid Recess Studio in Guwahati.

Sonically, Siddharth says they always consciously take a different direction with new material, but keep existing elements intact. “Cell” is one of the first tracks that is part of their upcoming album. “It more or less gives a feel of how the album is going to sound like.” He confirms that “This Alarming Calm” was a one-off single, but “Blindmen” will be part of the yet-to-be-titled album.

“This album will be groovier and heavier than all our previous works. We composed songs with parts that the three of us can recreate on stage. We finished writing the album but will be releasing a few singles before the complete album,” the guitarist says.
