Exclusive Premiere: Maneating Orchid Have An Apocalyptic ‘Premonition’

Watch the Bengaluru metallers' latest visual off their upcoming album 'Hive Mind,' which is timely and prescient all at once

Published by

Plenty of music has foretold war and nuclear fallout, but Bengaluru metal act Maneating Orchid have an immense sense of timing with their aptly titled new song “Premonition,” which carries a horrifying depiction of “toxic degradation” and “roaches that prevailed over the radioactive fallout.”

Delving in dissonance, “Premonition” is incisive and before you can get a handle on things, vocalist Kaushal L.S. launches into a 16-second, blood-curdling growl. True to their unpredictable ways, it leads into a wavy jazz-informed passage, anchored in guitarist Vinay Prasad’s strums, basslines from Rahil Ahmed and crafty work from drummer Mayur Nanda. The band says in a statement, “Lyrically, the song explores the human condition, urban decay, and a ‘vision’ of what’s to come.”

The third single from their upcoming album Hive Mind (releasing on March 17th), “Premonition” follows the intensity of songs like “Double-Crosser” and “Cover-Up.” Like they did with “Double-Crosser,” Maneating Orchid called on visual artist, animator and illustrator Anusha Menon to piece together a layered, terrifying portrayal of footage that conveys endless destruction. The band adds, “Visually, the song juxtaposes with the music video for the first single ‘Double Crosser’ in terms of having a digital feel as opposed to the analogue film feel of the first single.”
