Exclusive Premiere: Mocaine’s Neurotic Video for ‘Psilocybin’

The New Delhi artist's heavy new single is the third release off the upcoming album 'The Birth of Billy Munro'

After two rather slickly focused music videos sourced from stock footage, New Delhi rock artist Mocaine aka Amrit Mohan pulls the curtain back on a darker, more intense thematic layer with his latest, “Psilocybin.”

Taken from the upcoming concept record The Birth of Billy Munro, Mocaine adds fuel to the psychedelic, garage-rock fire on the track, which follows singles like “Fancy” and “Narcissus.” Songwriter and bandleader Mohan says, “The riff that the current version is built around started taking shape towards the end of 2017; I think I was in a bit of a Jack White re-listening phase at the time.” The song is paired with a skit titled “Did You Kill All Those People, Mister?” which in turn is part of the novella which is releasing alongside the album. Mocaine delivers wiry, warped heavy rock on “Psilocybin,” even as its music video takes you on a different kind of trip.

Shot by filmmaker Vinicius Gomes at a communal artist space in Delhi NCR, Mohan is seen for the first time (albeit with a haircut, considering the video was shot pre-pandemic) in the new set of Mocaine music videos. “I was only there for two days, during which the video was shot and a lot of whiskey drunk, and though I couldn’t find it [the name of the venue] now if I tried, I promise you it exists,” Mohan says.
