Exclusive Premiere: Pune Rock Band After Acoustics’ Debut Video ‘Bin Tere’

The stop-motion animated video drawn by sketch artist Anukriti Srivastava is for the opening track off their recently released debut album ‘Miraya’

As far as surprises that can be given by a member to his bandmates are concerned, a music video reaches well into the pleasant spectrum. Pune pop-rock act After Acoustics’ guitarist and principle songwriter Anurag Kumar Singh says his band was not in on the concept planned owing to lack of funds to shoot a traditional music video for their song “Bin Tere.” He says, “So I planned to make a zero budget video with nothing but creativity and a very talented and zealous young sketch artist.”

The simple, mandolin-aided love song that pines for someone near and dear is the opening track off their debut album Miraya, which released in May. After finalizing seven songs for the album over the course of three years and prepping for recording, the band – formed in 2014 – entered the studio with arranger and producer Meghdeep Bose. Singh says about the opening track, “It has been in the process for about four years; we kept it aside for later but never forgot about it due to the personal and emotional connect of it being our first live performance video.”

Sketch artist Anukriti Srivastava put in over 80 hours of drawing, over span of three weeks. She created about 2,000 frames for the music video that depicts and story of a boy and a girl. Singh, who worked on the VFX side of the video, adds, “The story is not based on the song but the song on the story; which was conceptualized by me. I briefed Anukriti about the concept and story, she was just as excited as me.”

Although they’re probably not as painstaking to create as “Bin Tere,” there’s two more music videos at work for After Acoustics, which will be released by November, alongside headline slots at college festivals.
