Exclusive Premiere: Singer Yashita Sharma and Composer Duo Archit and Smit Team Up for ‘Thoda Sambhal’

The tender string section-aided ballad centers on love that escapes the worry-ridden world

Following collaborations with singer-songwriter Nikhil D’Souza and Abhiruchi Singh, composer duo Archit Shah and Smit Ruparel call on playback singer Yashita Sharma for their third single, a gentle piano and string aided ballad called “Thoda Sambhal.”

Sharma, who has been known for work on songs like “Gallan Goodiyan” and “Chaandaniya” with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, previously worked with singer-songwriter and producer Siddharth Amit Bhavsar in 2019, for the track “Galat Fehmi.” With “Thoda Sambhal,” the singer says she was drawn to how Archit & Smit work together and “have a great rhythm amongst themselves.”

For their part, the duo add in a statement they co-wrote the song with Sharma since they always intended her to be their first and only choice of collaborator. “Thoda Sambhal,” with its music video directed by Ritesh Singh, also features bassist Govind Gowli, cello player Lavin DaCosta and percussion plus udu from Omkar Salunkhe. Pune-based producer Aseem Dhaneshwar helmed mix and master duties.

Sharma notes that they’ve created a song that “touches a very mature topic regarding modern relationships.” She adds, “I hope people will understand and like it for what it is.” The duo go into a bit more detail about “Thoda Sambhal,” describing it as a song that gives voice to “how a man with a seemingly endless path of struggle finds solace in the words of his lover, making it the perfect escape for him to transcend into a world free of worries, even for a fleeting moment.”

With a simplistic structure that’s still stirring in its use of string and piano, plus Sharma’s sublime vocals, Archit & Smit say that they want the song to center listeners into experiencing the present moment. “…And cherishing the people around you as no matter what the future holds, love will always have the power to revive a lost hope,” the duo add.
