Exclusive Premiere: Assam Pop Artist Synicah Rises Above in ‘Warrior’ Video
Producer Masmyth collaborates with the singer-songwriter for a rousing dream-pop song
Although she made her debut in 2018 with a rap song “Scars,” Guwahati singer-songwriter Synicah Baishya (who goes by her first name as an artist) takes on soul-bearing, dreamy pop on her second single “Warrior.”
The cinematic, hymn-like song is produced by Assam beatsmith Masmyth. The singer says the track’s “soothing vibe” made it a good fit for him, which led to experiments that took her away from rapping to focus on a lightheaded tune. “Since I’ve been in the rap scenario for quite a period of time, it was totally a different vision which I wanted to try and explore for my pop style singing abilities,” she adds. In a statement, Synicah describes “Warrior” as an “optimistic song about all those who have been through a lot but did not give up.”
Released with a music video directed by filmmaker Khalid Nazim – who also helms the fantasy-like visual effects seen at the end – Synicah recalls shooting in a forest in Meghalaya. “[It was] one of the most beautiful places in North-east India. Everything was so magical that during the shoot, I was welcomed by a beautiful butterfly as it took a round of me and flew away, which was so natural that we could not let that go and we kept it as is in the video,” the artist says.
“Warrior” arrives after Synicah’s soundtrack appearance on the song “Ratnakar,” the title track from the 2019 Assamese movie. The artist also lends a rap verse to Assamese song “Ei Prithibi,” led by Assamese star singer Zubeen Garg and vocalist Nara Bayan. Synicah promises more projects and collaborations coming up. She adds, “I am also working on bringing together a team for live concerts. I ought to be dropping new singles soon and also hopefully an album by the end of this year.”
