The composer-producer duo’s latest digs into disco-funk with guitars from Arunachal and words from Bengaluru and Italy

Kerala-bred duo The Fortune turn to a mix of local and global artists for their groovy, disco-leaning new song “Our Sanctuary,” featuring vocals and lyrics by Bengaluru-based Mahesh Raghunandan, guitars from Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh-based Takar Nabam and Italian artist Haezel.
Dhananj Shivganesh and Nikhil Pradip – who have regularly worked with collaborators on singles they began releasing from 2020 onwards – call on Mahesh and Haezel for sensual vocals which hardly miss a beat. Singing about love, lust and all the other exhilarating emotions attached to meeting a lover after a long gap, Nabam’s shiny guitar work sits commandingly over the rhythms created by The Fortune. Shivganesh says about the song, “What’s disco without the chucking guitars? Ever since I made the first demo of the song, I could only think of Takar Nabam to do the guitar work for the song. Stripping back some elements and adding Takar’s strums added the much required energy to the song. Way the guitar solo is constructed, both complicated and enjoyable at the same time, that’s purely Takar.”
The duo have followed up their first single of 2022 – “The End Of Us” featuring Dutch singer-producer Pyralid – with “Our Sanctuary.” While the former was a breakup song, their latest is all about intimacy. The Fortune’s producer Pradip says they recorded remotely but with ease, being in sync from the very beginning. “These veteran artists provided their best and it was an extremely satisfying experience working with all three of them,” the producer adds.
