Exclusive Premiere: Vasuda Sharma Debuts Jazzy New Sound on ‘Blinded By Love’ as Miss V

The Mumbai singer-songwriter ventures into more electronic territory under a brand new moniker

After the release of her debut crowdfunded album Attuned Spirits in 2013, Mumbai singer-songwriter Vasuda Sharma began to take an interest in electronic music production. “The whole sound took a different direction from what I was already doing,” she says. “I wanted to give it a different identity, hence the name ”˜Miss V.’” Sharma is now out with her debut single under the new avatar. Listen to the new track, entitled “Blinded By Love,” below, exclusively on Rolling Stone India.

”Blinded By Love” serves as an introduction to the “different direction” that Sharma intends to take as Miss V, veering into deep house, electronic, soul and R&B. The track also features several saxophone parts, which were performed by Mumbai-based multi-instrumentalist Nigel Rajaratnam. “Saxophone being my favorite woodwind instrument, I asked Nigel and he instantly agreed to collaborate on it and did a wonderful job on it too,” says Sharma.

Sharma self-produced the track at her home studio and recorded her vocals at Mumbai’s Wah Wah Studio. Rajaratnam recorded the saxophone parts for the song at his home studio. “Blinded By Love” was mixed and mastered by Italy-based Enrico ‘Kikko’ Sesselego.

Sharma is also currently working on a five-track EP titled It’s Miss V, which is scheduled to release this September. “It’s Miss V is going to be a self-produced EP with essentially electro-pop music, along with influences from disco, funk-house and soul,” says Sharma.

Sharma also has two collaborations in the works for later this year, with Holland-based musicians Rayen Pandey and Krishna Bhajan respectively. The singer-songwriter’s year is turning out to be quite eventful; in addition to working on new music with her band Sharma and the Besharams, the singer-songwriter will also be performing in Rotterdam this September at a concert organized by online music platform DesiYUP. “Lots of exciting and diverse things in the pipeline and I love them all equally,” says Sharma.
