Exclusive Premiere: Chennai’s Teenaged Producer Someone Else Shines on ‘By My Side’

Gaining traction for his version of 'Toss A Coin To Your Witcher' from the Netflix series ‘The Witcher,’ Jessenth Ebenezer talks about growing via labels and more

At the age of 18, Chennai-based Jessenth Ebenezer has a lot going for him, starting from the millions of streams that kickstarted his electronic music project Someone Else earlier this year. With his bass-heavy flip of “Toss a Coin To Your Witcher” (from the Netflix adaption of the fantasy video game trilogy and book The Witcher), Someone Else breached the million mark and he’s been releasing singles nearly every month since February. His latest – a shimmering, topsy-turvy future bass banger called “By My Side” – arrives on December 4th and you can stream it exclusively below.

Trained in piano (his parents got him a keyboard at the age of five), Ebenezer got into electronic music production via YouTube tutorials in 2010. “I was actually very much into rapping [as well],” the artist says. Speed-cubing, music-making and app development all remain part of the artist’s past and current interests. With electronic music at the center of his world right now, Someone Else has had music released via channels/brands such as Magic Records, Trap Town Records and Tribal Trap.

Climbing charts and gaining massive plays on SoundCloud and Spotify via bootlegs, remixes and covers, Ebenezer comes across as a determined music-maker who knows how to play the streaming game. With “Toss a Coin To Your Witcher,” the flip received an 8D re-release, which took it to the Global Viral 50 charts on Spotify. “It was quite literally the best debut I could have ever asked for and it has been tremendously pressurizing for me to follow up and deliver but I can say I have managed to do what I hoped and more, ever grateful to God,” he says.

He says “By My Side,” releasing via Italian dance imprint Seiromem, is one of 34 other projects he’s worked on this year, although several of them are still in progress. All this even as he pursues a technology degree in Chennai. He says, “[It’s] super hectic but you never get tired of doing what you love, right?” Through 2020 and 2021, Ebenezer is working not just as producer, but also as artist manager, aiding Italian, Bangladeshi and Indian musicians. He adds, “I’m taking it one step at a time and building a community of highly talented homegrown musicians to work with in the near future.”
