Exclusive Stream: American Pop Songstress Eulene’s Shimmering New Single ‘Heartbreak Hostage’

The Nashville-based artist enlisted Angelo Petraglia, who has extensively worked with rock band Kings of Leon, as co-composer and co-producer

It’s been just over a year since Nashville-based, New York-bred electro-pop artist Eulene has been putting out music, but there’s already an emphatic impression made. Working on her debut self-titled debut EP with American songwriter and producer Angelo Petraglia (whose credits include Kings Of Leon, Taylor Swift, Adam Lambert), Eulene is releasing her latest song “Heartbreak Hostage” on June 26th. Hear it exclusively below.

Featuring gleaming synth backing and sublime vocals, Eulene’s songs recall art-pop voices such as St. Vincent. Grimes and Robyn. There’s another influence at play as well – Eulene studied classical vocals and sang in a choir when she was in New York City. “I’d say studying classical and singing choral music has trained my ear to how I inherently hear melodies and harmonies.  In choirs, I learned how to blend the voice which is a different way of singing than solo singing. Implementing these very elements into my work was a strong part of the vision I had for this project – even before I even got started.”

While there’s plenty of electronic layers and a glitchy vocal sample providing melodic hooks for Eulene, “Heartbreak Hostage” was originally written a “rhythm track” with no instruments before it was fleshed out.  “This was a way to break away from my songwriting habits and allowed me a lot of freedom to experiment. My influences range from blending elements of electronic, pop, classical, disco and industrial. Themes of power, femininity, love and sacrifice are all present,” she adds.

With the song officially releasing later this month via GoGoLove Records, Eulene is acutely aware of the state of the world and says it’s been an “eye-opening chapter on many levels, including the future of the live music industry.” She adds, “I hope for peace, vaccines, healing and eventually a return to sharing live music in a with room full of people all together again. Nothing beats the live music experience.”
