Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder contributed “Skipping,” a gentle acoustic ballad, to Every Mother Counts 2012, a benefit for the maternal health advocacy campaign of the same name. The disc also features previously unreleased cuts by Beck, Coldplay, Bono and the Edge, Patti Smith, Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, Alanis Morissette and the Dave Matthews Band.

“Eddie was amazing to accept this project while in the midst of so much,” says Every Mother Counts founder Christy Turlington Burns. “I spoke to him and exchanged several emails about his contribution. ‘Skipping’ is such a sweet song and I just love that his daughter Olivia has a little cameo at the start. He once wrote me saying that his girls would be proud one day that their dad contributed to such a meaningful project.”

Every Mother Counts 2012 will be available in Starbucks shops in the United States and Canada between May 1st and May 29th, and $8 from the proceeds of each CD will go to the Every Mother Counts campaign. You can listen to Vedder’s song here today.
