Ask Delhi-based hardcore band Grammy Winning Effort how they would describe their own sound, and they call it “rock on overdrive, with strong hardcore influences on top of a solid rock & roll vibe.” If you’ve never caught the hardcore band live and revved up, their first single “The Roads” is a great taste of what you can expect on their self-titled debut album, slated for release on October 15th.

Penned in 2011, “The Roads” is one of the band’s earliest compositions, and has since then become a set regular. Says vocalist Dayus Madhan, “Back then, most of our compositions were either extremely power-packed, short and quick [like “Dead Horse Wagon”] or they tended to have long-drawn, complicated riffs. We decided to go with the prior style of writing and the first song to hit the three-minute mark was ”˜The Roads.’”

Conceptually similar to “Sheen like Charlie,” another track on the album that pays tribute to the candid, carefree [not to mention allegedly coked-up] ways of actor Charlie Sheen, “The Roads” is about British television series Top Gear’s presenter Jeremy Clarkson. “His [Clarkson’s] style of reviewing cars and his approach is something to behold. The way he says ”˜Speed! Power!’ or ”˜The Baby Jesus’ is truly fascinating. So we decided to write a song dedicated to him and his ways,” says Madhan.
