Drawing from their experiences during the pandemic, the quartet go from blues to a flower-power psychedelic jam

Following their stellar, psychedelic/blues rock debut EP in 2019, New Delhi band SkyEyes return with a shapeshifting new single called “Bring Me To The End,” which you can stream exclusively on Rolling Stone India a day ahead of its release.
The six-minute track, which was written during the pandemic-induced lockdown, goes from a wistful bluesy jam led by vocalist Diyatom Deb to a cracking bridge (aided by a vocal sample about psychedelic substances and intellectualism), before exploding into a Rage Against The Machine-style crunchy, crescendo riff fest, driven by guitarist Kaushik Manikandan, bassist Barun Sinha and drummer Akhil Kumar. Frontman Deb says that Sinha — who also mixed the track — wrote the initial bass part and the entire song started from there. “It was a completely new thing for us, making the song remotely from our homes. It was a struggle initially and hence it took us a bit of time to get it all together,” the vocalist adds.
Mastered by seasoned engineer John Davis at Metropolis Studios in London, “Bring Me To The End” is also their first track with Manikandan, who joined in last year. Deb says of the change, “We had to part ways with our previous guitar player [Sushant Thakur] because of creative differences but Kaushik managed to accomplish what we as a band were trying to get to musically. SkyEyes’ new sound will gravitate more towards the contemporary rock soundscape and Kaushik fits perfectly into this since he comes from a very similar background.”
Deb adds that there’s enough material for a full-length album ready to go, but they’re still figuring out if they can work remotely — and more importantly, find funding — for their next record. The frontman hints that they may work with producer Dan Swift, who was behind the boards for their self-titled EP. “It’s an expensive affair but hopefully later this year, you will have the first album by SkyEyes,” Deb says.
