Bengaluru hip-hop group T.ill APES provide groove, emotion and bounce to a conversation between two lovers separated by the regular drudgery of busy weekdays on their smooth single “Sunday Bubble,” featuring vocalist Shivani Rajan.

The female vocalist, who is part of the pop duo Shivani x Soorya with T.ill APES bassist/keyboardist/vocalist Soorya Praveen, was brought in to provide the female perspective to the song, with rapper Hanumankind‘s slick verses as a “moderator” in the conversation. “Sunday Bubble” is powered by drummer Sange Wangchuk’s fluent work behind the kit, saxophonist Gautam David elevating the track, while keyboardist Philip John and producer-guitarist and vocalist Doc Awes aka Amrith Raghunathan keep the rhythms mellow and flowing.

Soorya Praveen, who drove the composition of the song, says that his motivations to write this were “to create an imagery-based narrative for this seesaw of emotions.” He adds, “One being the protagonist’s need to keep the weekend going because he knows how much he’s enjoyed being with his girl as opposed to the girl being the practical one that knows that everybody needs to find a balance between work life and love life.”

The song follows their 2021 single “Concrete Jungle,” a collaboration with Kerala artist Tribemama Marykali and their 2020 party-starting EP Lift Off. The band says in a statement about “Sunday Bubble” being lighter and more finessed in comparison to their previous work, “A definite woohoo item for us is the fact that everything you hear on the track, right from the vocals, to the sax and even the drums were sourced locally and organically in our resident engineer’s auditory garden aka his apartment room.”

David adds that the track is filled with “tiny musical nuggets,” which is part of why he considers working with T.ill APES a “very enthralling experience.” He adds, “There are new auditory idioms and phrases that are constantly being generated on the fly, be it intentional or perfectly crafted mistakes that end up making the cut, completely erasing and rewriting our expectations of the song each time we track.”

“Sunday Bubble” will be out on all streaming platforms on March 25th, a day before their set at Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune on March 26th on Red Bull Off The Roof.
