Agra-born producer Bharat Kumar teams up with anonymous duo The Late Night Project and Toronto singer-songwriter Aeria
The world’s been a wide-ranging playground of collaborators for WCKiD aka Bharat Kumar, the young producer based out of Tundla, near Agra. Starting out producing and releasing music via numerous electronic, trap and bass record labels since 2020, Kumar also linked up with a series of collaborators.
Teaming up with fellow producers and singers like The FifthGuys, Salvo and Tommy Rage, the WCKiD song “Arcade” was out in 2021 and has notched up over 1.2 million streams on Spotify since. Now, Kumar is on to the next one, calling on Toronto-based singer-songwriter Aeria aka Sarah Gribeauval and anonymous production duo The Late Night Project for his high-energy new trap/dubstep/future bass song “Believe.”
Kumar says he first found inspiration when he was working privately on a remix of American producer RL Grime and singer-songwriter Daya’s 2018 track “I Wanna Know.” He took the advice for Dutch DJ-producer Arcando during a livestream and decided to redo it into his own track. “I immediately went on a search for vocalists who would fit the vibe of this track perfectly and that’s when Aeria came across my mind as I heard her recently on one of my friend [Pune-based producer] Jvckin’s tracks,” Kumar says of his Toronto-based collaborator.
Aeria, who lends powerful and sleek vocals to lead “Believe,” says the song is about “communicating with your partner that you need more than just words of affirmation, you need action.” She adds, “It’s great to hear how much someone wants me and loves being with me, but at some point, they have to really show it and not just say it.”
While pitching the finished track to labels (and facing a few rejections), Kumar connected with anonymous duo The Late Night Project. The producer adds, “They helped finalize the track but made some tweaks and mixing adjustments. They also helped in pitching this track to the label Dancing Dead, who approved the track and is now going to be released.”
