Mumbai death metal band Exhumation will play the headlining set at Domination ”“ the Deathfest V on March 10th, a day-long metal festival which returns after a decade.

Organizer Nitin Rajan, who served as vocalist of death metal band Morticide, started the festival in 2000, which he claims was the first metal festival to take place in Mumbai. “The best part is, in 2003, in the last edition of Deathfest, Exhumation made its debut. They’re coming back especially for this gig,” says Rajan. At least six more extreme metal acts are confirmed to play at the festival.

Exhumation vocalist Aditya Mehta is equally kicked about playing with the band again, which includes Prashant Shah on guitars, Rohit ”˜P-Man’ Pereira on bass and Virendra Kaith on drums. Their last performance was two years ago, at the second edition of the Rolling Stone Metal Awards in 2011.

“Rjiu [Dasgupta, co-organizer and bassist with heavy metal band Albatross] and Nitin asked us to play when they were putting this show together. We played at the last Deathfest and it was really big for us. Before that, we played just small shows. My first gig was actually with Demonic Resurrection at the first edition of Deathfest in 2000,” says Mehta.

The vocalist says their gig is, as of now, a one-off performance, citing the other projects that the band members are now involved with. Mehta is vocalist and guitarist with black metal band Solar Deity, while Shah and Kaith play with hardcore band Scribe and Pereira is busy with his electronica project ViceVersa and playing bass for electro duo Shaa’ir + Func.

Mehta says fans can expect favorites such as “Tandoori Chick,” “On The Platter,” and “Among The Dead.” “It was originally meant to be a Cannibal Corpse [death metal band] tribute show, but then things got changed around, so we’re going to play a normal Exhumation set ”“ a few old songs and new stuff from our last [2011] album Consider This, which is new for us, at least. Prashant and I are going to sit down and figure out the setlist,” says Mehta.
