EXO Make Their Highly-Anticipated Return With ‘Don’t Fight The Feeling’

The thrilling, sci-fi-themed track is also member Lay Zhang’s first comeback with the group since 2016

South Korean group EXO‘s latest single, “Don’t Fight The Feeling” takes on electrifying pop-based EDM and heavy synth to welcome summer. The track is the lead single off the group’s highly-anticipated new album of the same name and the follow-up to their 2019 LP Obsession

Dedicated to their fans, EXO’s music video for “Don’t Fight The Feeling” opens with an intriguing montage showing the interiors of a spaceship. A meteor collides with a planet and the words ‘History’ and ‘EXO’ crop up on the screen— a homage to the group’s successful nine-year career. The scene shifts to an aerial view of the members walking on a spaceship-like setting and vocalists D.O and Baekhyun foray into the first verse, “When everything was revealed / Under the light/ The drive on a lonely circuit began/ You have to lose everything/ You must admit it/ That’s how you truly achieve freedom.” The group amp up the joy and dance-anthem vibe of the track with an enthusiastic party sequence at the very end.

Mirroring the youthful composition, the lyrics serve as an unapologetic pep talk, motivating listeners to trust their instincts, irrespective of how unconventional they may be. The track also features Chinese vocalist and producer Lay Zhang, who is also a member of EXO but was unable to promote with the group since 2016. He blends his vocals with D.O in the pre-chorus, expressing gratitude to the group’s fans, “Just one in a million, I wanted it to be me/ You and I, who shined beautifully in that moment.”

EXO’s special album, Don’t Stop The Feeling features five tracks including the title track of the same name: “Paradise,” “Just As Usual,” “Runway” and “No Matter.”
