EXO’s D.O. Makes a Breezy Solo Debut with ‘Rose’

Accompanied by a music video, the track acts as the lead single off D.O.’s first solo EP, ‘Empathy’

Jul 26, 2021

Smitten by his love interest, EXO’s main vocalist, D.O. appears to be detached from reality in the acoustic folk track, “Rose.” Penned by the singer himself, “Rose” embodies the euphoric essence of romance as D.O. cycles his way around a quaint, picturesque neighborhood.

The music video opens with a rustic, semi-modern mansion in the frame, shadowed by a dark, thunderstorm night. Just before dawn sets in, a sapling appears at the porch of the mansion, followed by a bright and cheerful guitar rhythm filling the scene. The focus then moves to D.O. who grabs his bicycle singing, “Up above the clear blue sky/ Like a cloud following the wind/ Don’t go too far away / Just stay where you are / My baby every day in my heart.”

D.O. then proceeds to cycle around the neighborhood, making a stop at the local cafe. As the video concludes, D.O. approaches his home, singing “Even though I look shy / And cheesy, I can’t help it / From today we are lovers,” with the sapling now bloomed into a rose.

D.O.’s debut EP, Empathy contains eight tracks, including six new songs and two bonus additions. Apart from the title track “Rose”, the vocalist has also written the B-side, “I’m Fine.” The rest of the tracks are titled, “My Love”, “It’s Love”, “Dad”, “Si Fueras Mia”, “Rose- English version” and “I’m Gonna Love You” featuring South Korean rapper, Wonstein.
