Extreme Metallers High Frequency Announce ‘Durance of Hate’ Tour
The multi-city tour this month includes support from Mumbai melodic death metallers Trinergic in New Delhi and Mumbai
When they started playing metal as adolescents in 2008, extreme metallers High Frequency were based out of Varanasi and led by guitarist-vocalist Lakshya Singh and drummer Vishesh Singh. When they began competing in college band competitions in 2011, including the Indian Institute of Technology in Varanasi, the real initiation of High Frequency into the metal world began. Says Lakshya, “We’re still into old school stuff like Metallica, but one of our major influences is [Polish death metallers] Behemoth.”
The Singh brothers had their dreams fulfilled just recently, when they hung out with Behemoth frontman Nergal on his trip to Varanasi. Lakshya makes a decently-sized digression to talk about showing Nergal around Varanasi, but you can’t blame him. “He was the one who inspired us to play music,” Lakshya says.
After making a significant mark in the college competition circuit for a few years, Vishesh moved to New Delhi and joined the likes of prog groove metallers Murk Blare and deathcore act 13 God’s Bench, from where he roped in guitarist Ravi Kumar. The band is completed by bassist Kartikeya Sinha (from death metallers Fragarak), who Lakshya says gets them their gigs in the capital.
Although High Frequency spent most of 2015 working on music (“And we didn’t have money to tour and didn’t want to play competitions,” according to Lakshya), they now have a three-city tour lined up, courtesy of Bengaluru-based event management company Proximity Productions. Their Durance of Hate tour includes three shows in Guwahati (later in November), Mumbai (October 30th) and New Delhi (November 6th), alongside Mumbai melodic death metallers Trinergic (in Mumbai and New Delhi). Lakshya says, “Going out and playing has always been fun. Our parents have been supportive of it as well. We had to sit them down and tell them that we’re just going to these colleges and cities to play there and not do anything else.”
High Frequency’s setlist will include “Faith,” one of their earliest songs that they’ve nearly finished recording to release as a single ahead of the tour and songs such as “Euthanasia,” “Jewish Blood 1943.”
