Fall Out Boy have released a cinematic clip for lead single “Young and Menace,” the first single from their seventh studio album Mania set for release on September 15th.
A young girl raised by beast-like creatures is seen discovering her own humanity in the “Young and Menace” video, asking her animal parents about her past. She then escapes to see the human world, an adventure ominously soundtracked by the harsh, electro-rock song that references Nikki Sixx and Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again.” Towards the end, she ends up at a Fall Out Boy concert before waking up in her bed to viciously fighting, human parents.
In a statement, bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz compared the video to Elf. “She realizes that maybe she is human after all,” he explains. “But maybe the line between us and monsters is blurrier than we think.”
Wentz also noted that “Young and Menace” reminds him of his childhood in the Chicago suburbs. “I didn’t look like anyone there or feel like anyone. I felt like an outsider in my own town,” he says. “It wasn’t until I discovered punk rock and that community that I realized I did fit in somewhere in this world with the other people who didn’t fit in.”
Following the release of Mania, Fall Out Boy will embark on a North American tour, which will launch October 20th at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena and end on November 18th at Phoenix’s Talking Stick Resort Arena.
