‘Fallout’ Renewed for Second Season at Amazon

Show previously received a $25 million tax credit for relocating their filming to the state

Fallout has officially been renewed for a second season. Amazon Prime Video confirmed the news of the video game-based show’s renewal on Thursday.

Earlier this month, Variety confirmed that a second season for the Amazon show had received a $25 million tax credit for relocating their filming to the state, though Amazon had yet to confirm that a second season was on the way. The outlet reported that the show had the largest budget at $153 million after filming in New York and Utah for Season One.

Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner are the creators, exec producers, and showrunners of the show. Amazon MGM Studios and Kilter Films produce in association with Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks. Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Kyle MacLachlan, Walton Goggins, and Moisés Arias are among the actors on the show’s cast.

“Praise be to our insanely brilliant showrunners, Geneva and Graham, to our kick-ass cast, to Todd and James and all the legends at Bethesda, and to Jen, Vernon and the amazing team at Amazon for their incredible support of this show. We can’t wait to blow up the world all over again,” said Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, the show’s exec producers, in a statement.

“Jonah, Lisa, Geneva, and Graham have captivated the world with this ground-breaking, wild ride of a show,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, in a statement. “The bar was high for lovers of this iconic video game and so far we seem to have exceeded their expectations, while bringing in millions of new fans to the franchise.”

Rolling Stone review described the series as one of “the most ambitious translations of a game to television. It’s pretty good, too.”

“What sets Prime Video’s Fallout series apart from most video game adaptations is that it’s not really an adaptation at all, but rather its own canonical entry into the story laid out in the games,” the review added. “Setting up its own narrative, with three distinct protagonists as a way of morphing the games’ more open-ended gameplay into a linear story from differing points of view, players aren’t required to be totally familiar with the existing plotlines to get their bearings.”
