Los Angeles punk band FIDLAR give a quick history of MTV’s greatest hits in the eclectic, fun clip for their new single “40oz. On Repeat,” parodying Eminem, Soundgarden, Jamiroquai, Oasis and more. See the full list of parodied videos below.
Spanning the Eighties, Nineties and early Aughts, the video finds the band creating DIY versions of memorable videos. From Sugar Ray’s “Fly” to Britney Spears’ “”¦Baby One More Time,” the selection is diverse and full of surprises, including Missy Elliott’s iconic visuals for “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” and George Michael’s “Faith.” “In the late 90s and early 2000s, music videos were such a huge deal,” singer and guitarist Zac Carper said in a statement. “We decided that instead of making one overly slick music video, we would nod to 15 of our favorite music videos that we grew up with. Everyone in the band threw in their ideas.”
“40oz. on Repeat” comes with the announcement of their sophomore album Too . The follow-up to their 2013 self-titled debut was recorded over two weeks in Nashville with producer Jay Joyce and is set for release on September 4th via Mom + Pop Music. “We could have made record number one again,” Carper revealed. “But instead we decided to challenge ourselves and admit that we don’t know everything.”
The band will also set out on a headlining tour this fall, which kicks off September 9th in Denver, Colorado. Full tour dates and tickets are available on their official site.
