Korean Boys' Love (BL) dramas have grown in popularity over time. Check out some of the interesting ones coming up this year that you might enjoy watching
At present, there is no national legislation in South Korea prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. The choice of homosexuality as a subject in Korean dramas is increasing as a result of changing conditions. Dramas like Where Your Eyes Linger, My Heart, Wish You, Color Rush, Tinted with You, and others give clear evidence of how popular the Korean BL (Boys’ Love) drama series has only gotten in recent years. A few additional examples from recent years are Cherry Blossoms After Winter, Kissable Lips, Love Class, and Semantic Error. In this sense, 2023 would not be an exception. The following five BL dramas appear to be some of the more intriguing ones set for release this year.
Individual Circumstances
An uplifting narrative of a young film director named Ha Yeon-woo (Han Jung-wan), who was once very talented in Chungmuro (the street of culture, artists, and the film industry), but who has since entered a prolonged stretch of obscurity, and of a well-known fiction writer named Sung Woo-jae (Kang Jun-kyu), who seeks solace in writing to cope with a failed relationship. When the two individuals meet, an intense romance blossoms, healing their emotional scars. The drama is available on iQlYl, Gagaoolala, and Viki.
Unintentional Love Story
Ji Won-young (Gongchan), who is totally innocent of any wrongdoing, is abruptly sacked from his work after his immediate superior is ousted as a consequence of a corruption probe in this webtoon-based K-drama. Yoon Tae-joon (Cha Seo-won), the chairman’s favorite artist, is chased by Won-young in an effort to reclaim his position. He discovers the missing man in a remote town running a ceramics studio, but it is clear that he is not interested in being located. Things get even more challenging when feelings begin to develop between the two. Unintentional Love Story, as per sources, may be released in the first half of this year.
Follow the Wind
An endearing rom-com story, adapted from the same-named webtoon, follows band manager Han-tae and vocalist Ba-ram after an event that took place when they were still in school. When they re-cross paths as adults years later, will Ba-ram be able to rein in his feelings for Han-tae? Although a date has not yet been set, Follow the Wind is anticipated to be released this year.
A Shoulder to Cry On
The webtoon-based drama will see Omega X’s Jaehan and Yechan as the protagonists. The setting for the story is a school where Lee Da-yeol, a gifted archer with a scholarship, studies. But one day, Jo Tae-hyun, his insanely attractive classmate, gets him into trouble when he’s caught playing around in the nurse’s office and claims that Da-yeol was trying to make out with him. Thereafter, Da-yeol tries to put an end to the rumors, but to no effect. Tae-hyun continues to wreak havoc on Da-yeol’s life with no guilt whatsoever. Da-yeol spends his days hating Tae-hyun, yet the more time he spends with him, the more mixed his feelings become. A Shoulder to Cry On is expected to premiere in the second half of this year.
Love is Like a Cat
This Thai-Korean romance drama centers on Piuno (Mew Suppasit), a well-known Thai actor. Piuno detests animals and is renowned for having a frigid temperament as a result of the trauma he experienced as a child. Piuno meets Jun-hyuk (Kim Kyoung-seok), the head of a veterinary clinic, Lee Dae-byul (JM of Just B), the director of a dog shelter, and Oh Gi-min (Geonu of Just B), a shelter employee. As the story develops, the characters experience problems while also growing closer. Release details for the drama are still awaited.
