Scurlock, who joined the psychedelic rock band in 2002, is reported to be replaced by former Nirvana drummer Chad Channing
Drummer Kliph Scurlock has left American psychedelic rock band The Flaming Lips, according to the band’s representative. Music blog The Future Heart ran a speculative piece following Scurlock’s absence from the Flaming Lips’s gig in New Orleans last month.
Scurlock first confirmed the rumors on Twitter on March 31st, mentioning that he had been replaced by former Nirvana drummer Chad Channing. He later denied the news of leaving the band, tweeting, “That was a joke sent in response to a joke sent to me. There’s absolutely no truth in it.”
The Flaming Lips, who formed in 1983, roped in Scurlock in 2002 as a live drummer, while multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd played drums on all albums since 1991. It was only on the 2009 album, Embryonic and their 2013 album The Terror, when both Drozd and Scurlock shared drumming duties.
The singer played five songs, including "Long Live" and "New Year’s Day"
