Fotty Seven Is All About the Thug Life on New Song ‘You Know The Drill’

The Hindi hip-hop artist teams up with singer-lyricist Ellde Fazilka for his latest via Def Jam India

Amidst crowds, concerts, New Delhi nightlife and tractors doing wheelies (which isn’t a gravitational impossibility), rapper Fotty Seven and Punjabi singer-lyricist Ellde Fazilka stake their claim to their craft in the music video for “You Know The Drill.”

Fotty Seven’s newest (and second) song out via Def Jam India, there’s a familiar, glamorous and old-school gangsta hip-hop type beat that’s the vehicle for his and Fazilka’s hook and verses. The single follows his previous Def Jam India drop this year, “Banjo” and focuses on talking about faith and self-belief. Fotty Seven – who also recently performed at the #HennessyFreeStyle Hip-Hop Concert in Mumbai last month – talks about his journey and how he’s a provider for those who looked after him in the past, including family and friends.

Fotty Seven says in a statement, “This song holds a very special place in my heart as it talks about a different side of north India from where I come. Working with Ellde Fazilka was an amazing experience, as was shooting with such an incredible filmmaker, Azar Strato. I believe true wealth is living a happy life and being proud of who you are, and that is what ‘You Know The Drill’ is all about. I hope my fans and audience love and appreciate the work we’ve put in for this release.” Fazilka added in his statement, “The song describes the real culture and the lives of people through a different lens.”

Directed by Russian filmmaker, photographer and musician Azar Strato, the music video for “You Know The Drill” takes us through old Delhi and Chandigarh, explored through a raw, graphic perspective. There’s Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk and Rock Garden, plus other sights in the heart of the cities of New Delhi and Chandigarh. Although Fotty Seven is the first Indian artist Strato has worked with, the filmmaker’s music video catalog so far includes artists like Octavian, Fardi and Russian musicians.

“You Know The Drill” caps off a big year for Fotty Seven, one that included heavy-duty singles like “Confessions,” his collaboration with hip-hop artist Bali on “No Mercy,” “You Got This” and “Veham” for the soundtrack to the Anurag Kashyap-directed Bollywood film Do Baaraa. Early in the year, Fotty Seven broke into new audience brackets with songs like “Kya Haal Hai Bro?” and “Tu Hai Kaun” with New Delhi’s gnarly rapper Raga.
