Fotty Seven is at His Unapologetic Best on This Episode of Hennessy Freestyle Podcast

The Gurugram rapper shares the story of his audacious evolution on India’s ultimate hip-hop podcast presented by Hennessy and Rolling Stone India

Fotty Seven believes he has an artistic responsibility to “make it to the biggest level that Indian hip-hop has ever seen.” With some major breakthroughs behind him this year, he could well be on his way to the highest echelons of hip-hop. For starters, he got signed to the newly launched Def Jam India as one of its flagship artists, joining Mumbai homie Dino James on the roster.

For someone who says that he was never handed anything on a platter, this signing alone is a huge reason to celebrate, for the simple reason that in America, Def Jam Recordings, which started in 1984, has been intertwined with the holy grail of hip-hop – from Jay-Z to  Beastie Boys, Rihanna and Frank Ocean.

Ankit Gudwani aka Fotty Seven started writing and spitting verses almost a decade ago. His earliest music videos on his YouTube channel date back to 2017 (“Papa,” “Nahi Karni Baat” and “Meri Bhi Sunn Lo”), where the Gurugram-based artist is seen unleashing his signature aggression and razor-sharp rhymes.

His debut EP, Asli Independent that was released in 2020 under Kalamkaar, featured several collaborations with peers and predecessors alike: Karma, Kr$na, Rebel 7 and more. The six-track compilation saw the rise of Fotty Seven 2.0 – a more secure, serrated star with unapologetic verses up his sleeve on “Haath Toh Laga,” “Baap Se” and “Kar Diya.”

We are beyond elated to see the hip-hop subculture growing in India,” comments Nirmika Singh, Executive Editor, Rolling Stone India. “Given the legacy and drive, having a brand like Hennessy team up on this podcast was the natural choice. “

Fotty Seven stars in the fifth episode of this podcast that delves into the inspiring stories of six iconic hip-hop artists in India. He is joined by Raftaar, Dino James, Dee MC, Karma and Kr$na. Presented by Hennessy and Rolling Stone India, Hennessy Freestyle is hosted by Nirmika Singh, who engages the artists in freewheeling, honest conversations.
