Free Download: ‘Stupiditties’ 10th Anniversary Special

In 2006, DIY crusader and Mumbai-based indie music promoter Rishu Singh launched one of his dearest projects, the compilation album Stupiditties, with the sole aim of supporting fresh Indian indie music. Through the years, Stupiditties, released on Singh’s indieEnnui.BOMB, has featured tracks by who’s who of the rock, metal and punk scene in India ”“ from the now defunct bands like Kolkata rock & roll band The Supersonics and Mumbai alt rock act Split to Mumbai punk act Blek, rock band Blakc and many others. Talking about the effort that has gone into sustaining the project over the past decade, Singh says, jokingly, “It is a great and superb feeling, and it is going to make me immortal”¦  I compare it to Big Boss, because it started 10 years ago too.”

This year’s mixtape is a 10th anniversary special and consists of a blend of hip-hop, rock, electronica and acoustic pop. Established names such as Mumbai acts Donn Bhat + Passenger Revelator, Laxmi Bomb and ViceVersa share space with rising talent like singer-songwriters Tanya Nambiar (New Delhi), Ramya Pothuri (Mumbai), experimental rockers Greyfade (Thane), pop-rock act Ferry Tales (Mumbai) and others. “I think the difference in this Stupiditties is that there are many women artists,” says Singh. Unlike the previous editions that saw physical copies of Stupiditties, this year, Singh has decided to release it only online as a free download. He says “It is the only thing on my website.”

Many of the artists on Stupiddities 10 will also perform at a launch gig tonight at Raasta, Mumbai. The lineup includes singer-songwriter Aarifah Rebello and Pothuri along with fellow singer-songwriter and newest addition to the Ennui.BOMB roster Bianca Love.  Ferry Tales and Laxmi Bomb are also set to perform at the gig.

Apart from Stupiditties, Singh has also been hosting open-mic nights which have helped newer artists get noticed. His travelling festival New Wave Asia, which has witnessed performances by international acts as well as established Indian artists, will enter its third edition later this year. The festival is set to be held from December 16th-18th at indoor venues such as Raasta, New Delhi and Antisocial, New Delhi.
