Hear new releases from Indian independent acts
Whale in the Pond – “Midnight Falls”
Kolkata dream-folk band Whale in the Pond’s latest offering comes in the shape of the wistful new track entitled “Midnight Falls.” The song includes lush instrumentation, whispery vocals as well as plenty of beautiful harmonies that add plenty of color to the song. In a statement, the band said, “Our new single ‘Midnight Falls’ captures the dwindling passion in a relationship disguised as a serene love song with folksy mandolin and dreamy synths.”
Meera, Raag Sethi – “Mango Milkshake”
Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Meera and producer Raag Sethi from Ahmedabad’s Compass Box Studio offer plenty of freshness with the dancey number “Mango Milkshake.” The track – which is the first single off Meera’s upcoming EP Smile-Ability – leans towards a Bossa nova sound and includes her glossy vocals too. The song is also accompanied by a cutesy music video. In a statement, Meera said, “I saw this photo of a beautiful mango milkshake on my friend’s story one day, and being deathly allergic to milk, I couldn’t have one in real life unless I made it with plant milk. I was too lazy to do that, so I put all my feelings into a song instead!”
Swara – “gone”
Bengaluru pop/R&B singer-songwriter Swara’s debut single is the saccharine “gone,” off her forthcoming debut EP limbo. The song is filled with pop production as well as Swara’s polished vocals. In a statement, Swara said, “The song delves into the confusion of being entangled in the uncertainties of love – capturing the essence of a love-hate relationship with complex situations.”
Beyond Horizon – Sab Theek Hai
Indore rock outfit Beyond Horizon recently released their seven-track debut album Sab Theek Hai. The record includes plenty of dynamics, steely vocals, strong arrangements and more. In a statement, the band said, “This album talks about being in a hopeless stage and slowly transitioning into a hopeful stage through acceptance in life. It talks about the fact that we are indeed our own barrier on most days and healing rests in actively changing our actions towards a better future. Every song has its own energy and talks about a different aspect of life.”
