The Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is the world’s leading electronic music conference and club festival which covers the entire spectrum of genres and sub-genres. To add a little spice to ADE’s regular schedule of panels, discussions and performances, every year, the best food-loving artists also compete in the ADE DJ Cook Off. This year, Mumbai-based hip-hop/trap artist DJ Sa will participate in the culinary challenge against a bevy of foodie heavyweights: defending champion Kolsch (Denmark) and fellow techno artists Eats Everything (UK), Ellen Allien (Germany) and Lauren Lo Sung (UK).

“I think it’s a brilliant concept — DJs competing in a cook off,” says DJ Sa, who blames watching a ton of food shows on television for his love for cooking.  He adds that his passion grew into a serious pursuit when he started to cook all his meals by himself to maintain his fitness goals. He says, “That just opened up a whole new side for me and the thing that made my connection deeper was when I started cooking for my friends and relatives.”

DJ Sa was selected to compete in the global Cook Off after winning the inaugural ADE Global Sessions Mumbai Cook Off held earlier this year where he had to cook for 25 people in four hours. Not knowing that there was a prize for winning, he says he took part only to show off his skills and happily feed his friends who were attending the event.

Although he says he loves experimenting with different cuisines, he is holding his cards close to his chest about the item he’s planning to plate in Amsterdam. “It’s going to be something that I love eating, and yes, it’s going to have an Indian flair to it.” This year, the ADE Cook Off jury comprises English dance music legends Paul Oakenfold and Dave Clark and three-time cook off winner, the American DJ Seth Troxler himself.

Apart from putting his culinary skills to the test, DJ Sa will also be part of a panel on ”˜Hip-Hop, Bass and Beats in the East’ at ADE.  Back home, he is working on a duo project, Sa X SA featuring drum ”˜n’ bass artist Sound Avtar.

The ADE DJ Cook Off is set to be held on October 19th. More details here: https://www.amsterdam-dance-event.nl/program/2016/the-ade-dj-cook-off/5133767/
