G. Love and Jack Johnson Celebrate the Blues on ‘Early Rising’ – Song Premiere

Singer-songwriters unite for Record Store Day release

G. Love discovered the blues at his local record store ”“ and to pay things forward, the singer-songwriter has linked up with his friend Jack Johnson to record a special 10-inch vinyl called Blood Shot and Blue for Record Store Day. “Early Rising” comes out of a recording session held last fall when G. Love visited Johnson’s Brushfire Records; he had written a batch of tunes inspired by Bukka White and Mississippi John Hurt, and the songs took shape with heavy delta blues inflections.

“I found the blues walking through the aisles of Third Street Jazz, my independent record store. That store and those records changed my life,” G. Love tells ROLLING STONE. “The eclectic, unique and diverse collection of records which indies always have is why those stores turn people onto music, not just sell them music.”

Blood Shot and Blue will be out April 20th in the U.S. on Brushfire and limited to 2,000 copies
