Gaijin To Debut at G-Shock Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2016
The Mumbai-based tech-death metallers take to the stage at the seventh edition of RSMA on Februrary 28th
Gaijin’s discography may extend to just three tracks, but the Mumbai-based tech death metallers promise to pack in a punch for their debut gig at G-Shock Rolling Stone Metal Awards 2016 this month. Says vocalist Malcolm Soans, “We’re definitely not going to disappoint anyone. People are really going to like our music.”
Although they’ve been around since 2010, constant lineup changes [which even included Bhayanak Maut drummer Rahul Hariharan for a few months] prevented Gaijin from making a mark in the metal circuit. Even putting out a three-track, self-titled debut EP ”” which materialized in November last year through metal label Transcending Obscurity Distribution ”” took longer than expected: “Gaijin was in the pipeline for over two years, but because of the lineup changes, we could not put a lot of things into perspective. Once the lineup was steady, we started recording the EP,” says Soans. The current lineup includes Soans on vocals, guitarists Jay Pardhy and Vinit Jani, bassist Akshay Gite and drummer Ajit Singh.
For their debut gig on February 28th at the seventh annual RSMA at Hard Rock Cafe [Worli], Gaijin will perform tracks off the EP as well as a surprise cover. However, while slice-and-dice riff work-led songs like “Meiosis” and “Anamnesis” remain as instrumentals on the record, Soans says he’s adding vocals for live performances of the tracks, along with the opening song “Dead Planet.”
