Waltz-informed Hindi love song is taken from the pop artist’s new album ‘Good Vibes Only’
Pop artist Gajendra Verma’s new album Good Vibes Only sees the singer-songwriter push in new directions and the proof of that is heard right from the opening track “Jhoom,” which now has a charming music video.
Inspired by waltz, jazz and blues styles, the song explores the “fragile yet resilient nature of human connection,” according to a press release. Verma digs into just how much he’s craving affection and takes that a step further with the music video directed by filmmakers Vikram Singh and Preet Singh Bhullar, featuring dancer and actor Bineet Kaur as Verma’s partner in love and dance, shot in Thailand.
Verma tells Rolling Stone India about the song, “This song is close to my heart because it allowed me to venture into the world of blues for the first time. It’s a genre I’ve admired, and creating this track with my bandmates felt like a collaborative celebration of music. From the lyrics to the vocals, we aimed to keep it raw yet impactful. Singing at such a high pitch pushed my vocal boundaries, and the process of layering those emotions into the song was incredibly rewarding. What makes this track even more special is the energy and soul my musician friends infused into it. It’s one of those creations that you look back on with pride.”
In a statement with the release of the single, Verma adds that “the journey of bringing it to life was so much fun.” He adds, “I’ve always loved experimenting with my music, and ‘Jhoom’ turned out to be one of my favorites on the album. The lyrics are intentionally simple yet powerful, and vocally, I enjoyed pushing myself by singing in a very high pitch. There’s a unique energy in this track, and I’m excited to share its story through this music video.”
Verma has also been performing across the country on the back of releasing Good Vibes Only in October on streaming platforms, followed by music videos for songs like “Enna Yaad” and now, “Jhoom.” Verma has wrapped up a Pune concert on Nov. 23 and heads on to the Me:Gong Festival in Meghalaya on Nov. 29, Gurugram on Nov. 30, Hyderabad on Dec. 7, Bengaluru on Dec. 14, Pune on Dec. 15 and Mumbai on Jan. 11, 2025.
