New Jersey punk band the Gaslight Anthem announced Wednesday that the group will go on an indefinite hiatus following their current European tour. “We’re all going to do other projects and stay active in some way or another, both in and out of music, but we’d like to step away from the band until we decide what we’d like to do next,” Gaslight Anthem wrote on Facebook.

Brian Fallon and company first emerged on the scene with their 2007 debut Sink or Swim, but broke through the following year with their second LP The ’59 Sound. The Gaslight Anthem were frequently compared to another Jersey native ”“ Bruce Springsteen ”“ and in 2009, they were recruited to open up for Springsteen in London. Springsteen and Gaslight Anthem also appeared during each other’s sets at the 2009 Glastonbury Festival.

Since then, it’s been a near-constant cycle of touring and recording for the band, who last released their fifth LP Get Hurt in 2014. “We’d like to recharge and take a step back until we have something we feel excited about rather than going right back to making a record just for the sake of making the next record,” the band wrote. “We all feel this is the best decision we can make and it feels like the right one for us.”

While Gaslight Anthem are hitting the brakes, Fallon shows no signs of slowing down. He’s already involved in a pair of side projects: The Horrible Crowes, featuring former Gaslight guitarist Ian Perkins, and the folk band Molly and the Zombies. Guitarist Alex Rosamilia recently released No Foxhole Prayers with his metal act Servitude.

The Gaslight Anthem wrapped up their announcement by saying, “Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our band for the last eight years and we’ll see you down the road.”
