"I wanted to tell a little messier, murkier story of a relationship," says director Shakun Batra
Gehraiyaan delves deep into the complexities of relationships and human emotions. The story follows ‘Alisha’ (Deepika Padukone) and ‘Zain’ (Siddhanth Chaturvedi) who cross paths only to get entangled in a love triangle where things get a lot messier as they confront their harrowing pasts while trying to avoid the same. The film also stars Ananya Panday, Dhairya Karwa in lead roles alongside Naseeruddin Shah and Rajat Kapoor. As we cruise through the trailer texts appear, ‘Some lies we tell others/Some we tell ourselves/Beneath every lie is a secret/And the deeper you go/The darker it gets,’ hinting dualities in human nature and that we are a complicated lot mired in a web of truths and lies, thoughts and emotions.
In an interview with the director, Shakun Batra opens up on how he feels about the upcoming release. According to him, “Over a period of time, the idea of love has been oversimplified in Hindi films,” and with time he has realized that love is way more complex and not so romanticized in his mind anymore. “I wanted to zoom out and tell a story that takes into account that complex, that complication.”
Batra has given special attention to the music of the film in an attempt to narrate a more relatable story. In his search for a newer soundscape a newer feeling, something that could justify the contemporary story, he got introduced to Kabeer Kathpalia (OAFF) and Savera Mehta who brought an amazing soundscape which he thinks has added more value to how one is supposed to feel when one watches the film.
