The first edition of the new gig series will be held on May 3rd at Mumbai’s Antisocial, Khar
Trust BLEK to move over boring album launch gigs. After the release of their second EP Break The Beat and the success of their crowdfunding campaign for the music video for “Wasting Away” earlier this year, the Mumbai alt rockers decided to play more than just a one-off gig to promote their record. That thought has led to the birth of a new gig series, #BLEKParty, which kicks off on May 3rd at Antisocial, Khar in Mumbai.
“Basically, we like throwing parties,” says band vocalist/guitarist Rishi Bradoo. He adds, “We decided to see what happens if we curate an entire event ourselves with the bands that we like.” Apart from BLEK themselves, the first edition of #BLEKParty will feature Mumbai indie-pop project Your Chin, electronica artist Achint and punk rockers The Lightyears Explode.
BLEK have also teamed up with Mumbai-based visual artist Utkarsh Agrawal for the gig. Agrawal, who is also known as UT, has previously worked on the visuals for the recently held Fangirl Live Festival in Ahmadabad, as well as on several projects for Mumbai events and artist management agency KRUNK. “We are planning to do a number of visuals with multiple projectors,” informs Bradoo.
Although Bradoo and co. are already planning for future editions of #BLEKParty, right now the focus is to test the waters with the first gig. Ask Bradoo if the series will travel outside of Mumbai and he says, “To do it in different cities is logistically out of the question right now. As a band we don’t have the resources.”
