Gig Preview: Dana Gillespie at Simply The Blues, Mumbai

The veteran English performer will perform her unique ‘risque blues’ tonight at the opening concert of the multi-city festival

Dana Gillespie has been in the limelight pretty much all her life, whether as a singer-songwriter or a film and theatre actress. With fifty years of showbiz behind year, the 66-year-old English artist makes a most charming performer on stage. She has tried her hand at possibly every kind of music since she started out ”“ from pop to rock and more recently, the blues. At her show tonight at Blue Frog, which is part of multi-city Simply The Blues festival, the veteran singer will present her unique brand of risqué blues, known for its suggestive lyrics, seductive vocals and moody music. “Naughty is nice but risqué is better. I love seeing people walking away from my shows grinning ear to ear,” says Gillespie, who has released several blues albums such as like Blue Job, Move Your Body Close To Me, Solid Romance, Where Blue Begins and Hot Stuff among others.

After Mumbai, she will be performing in Goa [Sol de Goa Hotel] on November 26th, Bengaluru [Blue Frog] on November 27th and New Delho [Q-La] on November 28th.

Gillespie has also been on regular world tours, often accompanied by blues guitarist Jake Zaitz and composer/keyboardist Matt Gest. Both of them bring their unique individual sound to the performance and the three comprise The Dana Gillespie Trio.

Gillespie is also a follower of Shri Sathya Sai Baba and has recorded several bhajan albums.
