The first edition of the new day-long music festival will be held on November 10th at Mumbai’s Khar Social
Nestled in the by lanes of the Mumbai suburb of Khar is the popular music venue, co-working space, café and bar as well as culture hub, Khar Social. The trendy club is celebrating its two year anniversary this week and is doing so by curating their own one day music festival Disrupt on November 10th in collaboration with Mumbai artist management agency Mixtape.
Disrupt will host electronic and hip-hop across three stages — the Terrace Stage, Room One and Room Two — at the festival. Each stage will showcase different genres of music such as afro-beat, house, hip-hop, dub, grime, U.K. garage, and bass music.
The day-long event’s big draws are Italy-based DJ and producer Clap! Clap! and U.K. garage/grime scene posterboy, producer and bassist Preditah, who are both making their India debut.
Preditah says, “Having never played here, I have no clue as to what kind of music Indians do enjoy, I’m going to observe everything and take in as much as possible and try to use it in my music.” On what his set list might be like, Preditah states that he usually does not plan ahead of gigs. He explains, “I just take my music everywhere and play a set which suits the vibe and likes of the people around.”
The festival kicks off at 5 pm with a three-hour back to back set featuring Bhavishyavani Future Soundz head honcho M.Mat and Magnetic Fields festival founders, Moniker and Eng. Other artists slated to perform at the festival include Mumbai bass music producer EZ Riser, electronic music artist Zokhuma, hip-hop/grime/trap collective MadStarBase, Bengaluru producer _RHL and more.
“With Disrupt, we want the audiences to experience an urban festival like they have never experienced before,” says Naveen Deshpande, founder and director at Mixtape. He adds, “At Mixtape, tradition has always been to put heavy emphasis on the production of the gig with cutting edge sound, lights, and video — which comes in priority right after the curation. With this arsenal we hope to create a sort of chaos within harmony.”
Apart from the music, attendees can revel in celebratory decor, quirky installations and games.
