“We can breathe again through live music,” says seasoned Mumbai vocalist Joe Alvarez (from rock bands such as Savages, Atomic Forest and Skye). He is alluding to the fact that gigs are now back in full swing after the pandemic shut things down. And on September 18th, Alvarez is set to hit the stage once again at the city-based antiSOCIAL for an evening of blues and rock.

Talking about the group of musicians he’s picked for the gig, the singer says, “The band was put together by specially selecting individual masters of their craft to form a collective.” While Alvarez is set to handle vocal duties, the rest of the lineup includes guitarist Amandeep Singh, bassist Avishek Dey, keyboard players Natasha Pinto and Arka Chakraborty, saxophonist Mark Dey Hartsuch and drummer Shravan Samsi. Artist Shazaan Padamsee will also join the band for a guest spot. “It’s the first time I’m performing with this configuration. I believe it will be an explosive musical experience for the players and the audience,” says Alvarez.

Attendees will be treated to songs by artists such as Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Stevie Wonder, Sting, The Allman Brothers Band and more. With a couple of instrumental numbers also on the set list, Alvarez will even perform some of his original songs at the gig. “You are going to hear a slamming backbeat powered by a chunky bass, fiery blazing guitar solos, virtuosic keyboard parts and magical saxophone,” the singer says.

After the show at antiSOCIAL, Alvarez and his band will take their set to the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) on October 1st followed by a show at Mumbai’s Bluebop Café on October 21st. Alvarez says, “I would expect to see a whole lot of early and current rockers stepping in and hanging with the vibe.”
