Low res PosterThis year hasn’t been kind to the performing arts so far [David Bowie, Prince and Alan Rickman to name a few], and the world in response has been running the tribute gamut with everything from musicians-meeting-in-heaven-memes to purple waterfalls [for Prince] to change.org petitions [to bring Bowie back] and of course, musicians covering  the late artists’ classics.

Closer home, Mumbai-based gig series Make the Scene Sessions are bringing together cover bands Jar of Flies and The Coolwaters Project, and horror metallers Albatross to pay homage to four recently passed-over legends, including David Bowie, Lemmy [of Motörhead], Glenn Frey [of the Eagles] and Scott Weiland [of Stone Temple Pilots] in their latest edition “Make the Scene: Resting in Peace”.

Says MTS founder and Jar of Flies member Howard Pereira, “The concept is one of the many ideas that we at MTS constantly drum up. But this was a no-brainer considering the four legends we are paying tribute to passed away pretty much around the same time.”

Apart from covering Motörhead classics like “God Was Never On Your Side” and gambling anthem “Ace of Spades”, Albatross will also offer nostalgia with their double tribute to WWE wrestler Triple H and his Motörhead theme songs  such as “The Game” and “King of Kings”.

Jar of Flies, on the other hand, have been paying tribute to grunge icons Alice in Chains since 2010, and are set to cover STP tracks from across the years including “Interstate Love Song” and “Superman Silvergun”, while The Coolwaters Project will take on Eagles and Bowie hits. Says Pereira, “With this gig we got everything we asked for in terms of musicians as well as excellent support from all partners and everyone involved. These four [musicians] made a very very good, and hopefully long-lasting impression.”
