Chennai-based garage rock group Skrat will perform this week as headliners for the Mumbai leg of Road to Converse Rubber Tracks along with Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Ankur Tewari.

In 2013, Skrat released their album Bring Out The Big Guns and have been gigging since, performing at festivals, clubs, campuses. The trio, who have been experimenting with new material at their live shows, have already collected an album worth of new tracks. Says frontman T.T. Sriram, “We’ve played a few of them live. But our songs never remain the same, even after the album [has been recorded].”

Skrat will be playing in Mumbai for the first time since their performance at The Scene last April. Says bassist Satish Narayanan, “A whole bunch of friends who have recently shifted to Bombay will also be coming to the show, so we’re looking at some pretty big home support as well.” The band will play fan favorites such as “Tin Can Man,” “Samurai Badass” and “Smoke A Cigar,” which were also included in their “Skrat In The Shed” video, as well as previewing new material such as “Roach Coach.” The three-member band from Chennai, formed in 2006, comprises vocalist/guitarist T.T. Sriram, bassist Satish Narayanan and drummer Tapass Naresh.

The first Indian edition of Road to Converse Rubber Tracks will take place in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chennai. At each of these gigs, five selected bands will play before a jury, with one band ultimately being selected from each city for the finale in Mumbai. Each gig will also have a local headlining act. One band will be selected from each of the five cities to participate at the finale in Mumbai where they will be given the opportunity to design and print merchandise. The competition winner will also travel to Brooklyn, New York and record a track at the famous Rubber Tracks studio.
