Gig Review: Ferry Tales and Krazy Electrons at High Spirits, Pune

Playing their first out-station gig, Ferry Tales’  merry set consisted of tunes from their upcoming debut EP There She Goes and a pitch-perfect cover of Pharrell Williams’ chart topper “Happy.” Vocalist-guitarist Akshay Dakhane’s soaring vocals, clubbed with lead guitarist Nischal Chaubey’s AAL-esque tapping solos and a groovy rhythm section by Siddhant Vetekar on bass and Nilay Singh on drums kept the crowd captivated throughout their exhilarating sixty minutes set. Ferry Tales ended their set with “There She Goes” and “Infinite Love.”

Returning to Pune for the fifth time, with influences ranging from Infected Mushroom, The Prodigy, to A.R. Rahman and Amit Trivedi, Krazy Electrons, started their set with the bass-heavy “Out with the Crazy,” which sent the crowd into a tizzy. The ethno-drum n’ bass act is the brainchild of Chaitanya ‘Chatty’ Bulusu, with Anand Bhaskar on vocal/guitars and Ajay Jayanthi on vocals/violins [both from Anand Bhaskar Collective]. The high-energy set consisted of songs from their debut album This and That, including set-regulars “Coexistence is Inevitable’, “This and That,” along with songs from their unreleased sophomore EP. A rendition of “Urvashi” [from the 1994 film Humse Hai Muqabala], got the crowd jumping in sync with the band, which brought the afternoon to an explosive end.
