Peter Cat Recording Co, March 29, Blue Frog Delhi: The Delhi band had a fairly lacklustre start to their gig this Thursday night, thanks to a weak opening act. The Vinyl Records, an all-girl band from the North-East, now based in Delhi looked like a fun, funky act with a yellow guitar and
keytar support, but delivered a performance that lacked punch. This set the tone for the rest of the evening.

PCRC took time to stir up the audience. This isn’t easy especially when their music tends to turn downtempo and take on a melancholic tinge. With the help of a megaphone, a harmonium and obscure samples, PCRC finally picked up midway into their set.

The band, which was formed in 2008 and has been gigging only since 2010 with their most recent gig in Kolkata, doesn’t expend too much energy on working an audience. Instead, they wait for the audience to absorb their carnival sounds and sample-filled pieces (including those picked up
from films, TV shows and in one case, off a speech by an evangelist).

They delivered a winner titled “Discoman” that sounded like it was straight out of an easy jam session. Considering that the band performed “Discoman” for the first time, it was an impressive effort. The energy shot up from there on and the band followed it up with regulars such
as “Bombay”, “Happiness” and “The Clown on the 22nd floor”, a track charged by the metronomic bass guitar that had some people in the audience breaking into a jig. The gig peaked just before the set ended with “Love Demons”.

Key tracks: “Bombay”, “Discoman”
